COMMUNITY

Welcome!  Truly, welcome to Wash Park…

You already belong.

Before you ever set foot in Wash Park UCC, you already belong.

As a faith community we are only becoming who we want to be. In fact, we’re always only becoming.  We welcome each person, and each person teaches us something about themselves and about ourselves.

Every individual in our midst is known, valued and loved. Our members rely on each other for laughter, celebrations, and profound support in times of need.

We celebrate diversity.

It’s a fact that our church has a long legacy, going back decades, of being leaders in advocating for racial and LGBTIQ equality. One of our members was recently heard to say, “I don’t even know who is gay and who is straight in this congregation. It’s not something that matters to me, except in the sense that every person who is part of a minority likely has sore spots that need to be treated tenderly.”

Whatever your background, wherever you are in life, you are welcomed here.

Connect and Deepen…

We know that, after the initial warm welcome, it can be a challenge to find the “on ramps” to deeper community connection.

We have some ideas for you.  If you’re interested in something, use the CONTACT tab and we’ll get back to you.

Extended Families.
One way many newcomers choose to go deeper is to explore joining an Extended Family. These groups gather throughout the year to share conversation, meals, and laughter. Over the years they’ve been places for trusted friendships and raising families with a broad net of caring support.

Choir.
Our small but mighty choir is a source of lasting friendships for many members. No auditions necessary, we’d love to have you sing with us!

All-church Retreat.
Each fall we gather at La Foret, the beautiful UCC retreat in the Black Forest near Colorado Springs, for a weekend of relaxed fellowship. For many of us, connections made here spark lifetime memories and friendships.  Check it out.  All are welcome!

Women’s Retreat.
Each winter, this retreat takes place somewhere in the Front Range mountains, and offers a lightly scheduled weekend of connection, relaxation and renewal. And a slightly raucous, always memorable Saturday night of games. All are welcome!

Men’s Group.
Every Saturday morning the men’s group meets for coffee and conversation, starting at 9:00 a.m. All are welcome!

Book Club.
We read a wide range of fiction and non-fiction, meeting monthly for a light potluck dinner and discussion. All are welcome!

Game Night.
This is usually a low-pressure game of bridge but sometimes branches out to Scrabble. Semi-monthly. All are welcome, and if you’re a newcomer to bridge we’ll teach you the ropes!

Youth & Intergenerational.
Beyond Sunday School, we look for opportunities for our youth to gather and grow, such as our seasonal “Maker’s Days” focused on connecting art and acts of creation to traditional wisdom and contemporary life.

Gatherings

We mark our time together with laughter, ritual and celebration.
